Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum is located inside Historic Hangar #1 at the Cape May Airport in Cape May, New Jersey. Built by the U.S. Navy during World War II, the massive 92,000-square-foot wooden hangar served as part of Naval Air Station Wildwood, an important training facility for Navy dive-bomber squadrons from 1943 to 1945.
Today, the museum preserves this important piece of Cape May County history while honoring the 42 naval aviators who lost their lives during training operations at NAS Wildwood. Historic Hangar #1 is listed on both the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places and remains an exhibit in its own right.
Visitors can explore more than 25 historic aircraft and helicopters, military vehicles, engines, artifacts, interactive exhibits, and displays spanning World War II through the modern era. Guests can climb into select aircraft, experience real cockpits, explore the museum’s former air traffic control tower, and enjoy hands-on exhibits for visitors of all ages.
Open year-round, the museum also hosts educational programs, lectures, special events, visiting aircraft, community programs, and its annual AirFest celebration, making it one of Cape May County’s most unique historic attractions.
Located at Cape May Airport. Follow signs for the airport, then continue to the rear of the airport to Historic Hangar #1 at 500 Forrestal Road.
